Jacqui Smith’s token gesture is an insult.

So Jacqui Smith is apparently stepping down as Home Secretary. It’s not exactly hard to see why. She has embrassed herself and her Party by being shown to be totally out of her depth.

However, Smith is going to stay on as an MP, rendering the entire practise worthless. She has obviously realised she isn’t up the job of Home Secretary, but isn’t willing to do the honourable thing and jack politics in. She will continue to be a paid politician if she has her way. A shame those who make shambolic mistakes in the real world don’t have such a cosy multi-platform option open to them.  

Hopefully her constituents voice their verdict and get her out.
